Torah Studio Privacy Policy

Torah Studio is a private iPhone app operated by The Chabad Torah Center for preparing, recording, captioning, saving, and sharing Torah Tuesday videos. This policy explains what the app accesses and how that information is used.

Information stored on the device

Torah Studio stores teaching titles, scripts, formatting, workflow status, recordings, caption timing projects, saved-take information, and app preferences on the user's device. This information remains there until the user deletes it or removes the app. A user may optionally save a copy of a chosen video to the iPhone Photos library.

Camera, microphone, Photos, and speech recognition

The app uses the camera and microphone only to record videos at the user's direction. Photos access is used only when the user chooses to save a copy. Apple Speech Recognition may process audio on the device or through Apple's services to help align the user's script with the recording for captions. Torah Studio does not use these permissions for advertising or tracking.

Google Docs and YouTube data

When the user chooses Choose Several Google Docs, Torah Studio requests Google's per-file drive.file permission. Google's file picker lets the user select one or several specific Docs to place in the visible Torah Tuesday Docs Library. The app can then read those selected Docs' titles, text, formatting, and revision identifiers. A Drive folder may be used to organize Torah Tuesday documents, but selecting or opening that folder is not treated as blanket permission. Torah Studio does not scan the user's Drive, read files outside the visible library, or write to selected Docs. The user chooses one library Doc for a teaching; the app shows a preview and changes the local draft only after the user taps Update Draft. Pulling later changes is always manual.

When the user chooses to connect YouTube, Google Sign-In provides the connected account's email address and authorization credentials. Torah Studio separately requests the youtube.upload permission needed to upload videos to the user's YouTube channel.

Torah Studio uses Google data only to:

  • let the user choose one or several Google Docs and read only those selected Docs;
  • maintain an on-device list showing the complete Torah Tuesday Docs Library;
  • show a preview of its spoken text and native emphasis before updating a local draft;
  • identify the connected Google account in the app;
  • maintain the connection authorized by the user; and
  • upload a video selected by the user, together with the title, description, audience selection, and visibility information the user reviews before uploading.

The selected Docs' titles, identifiers, revision identifiers, and last-read dates are stored in the local Docs Library on the iPhone. Imported text and formatting are stored as part of the local teaching draft. Google Docs authorization credentials are stored in the iPhone Keychain. YouTube authorization credentials are handled by Google Sign-In. These credentials and the imported content are not sold, used for advertising, or shared with unrelated third parties.

Torah Studio does not read the user's YouTube library, contacts, email, unrelated Google Drive files, or unrelated Google Account data. It does not edit Google Docs or upload automatically.

Torah Studio's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Sharing and retention

Torah Studio does not sell personal information. Information is shared with Apple only when the user invokes Apple services such as Speech Recognition or Photos, and with Google only when the user selects or pulls a Google Doc, connects the account, or initiates a YouTube upload. Videos uploaded to YouTube are retained under the user's YouTube account settings and Google's policies. Local content remains on the device until the user deletes it or removes the app.

User choices and deletion

The user can disconnect Google Docs or YouTube inside Torah Studio and can revoke Torah Studio's Google access from the Google Account permissions page. Disconnecting Google Docs removes its saved authorization token from the iPhone; it does not delete local drafts already imported or the on-device list showing which Docs were previously selected. The user can delete local takes in Torah Studio and remove optional Photos copies in the Photos app. Videos already uploaded to YouTube can be managed or deleted in YouTube Studio.

Children

Torah Studio is a content-creation tool operated by an adult and is not designed to collect personal information from children.
